Kihon Kata
Sequence 1:
Tori uses his left hand to grab uke's right wrist (in feudal Okinawa this would be done to restrain uke from drawing his sword) and moves to punch uke with the other hand. |
Uke's weight shifts to his right leg and he sinks into cat stance. Simultaneously, his right thumb positions itself to the outer side of tori's left wrist and his right arm pushes slightly forward and to uke's left. This instantly blindsides tori; this move is surprisingly effective. At the same time uke's left arm has raised in readiness for the next move. This is the half way position for gedan barai. Note the important work done by the so-called "reaction hand". | ||
Uke's weight shifts forward into forward stance. His left ulna either rubs against toris' left golgi tendon (TW11) or hits into the body of the triceps (TW 12). Uke's right hand pulls back as his left pushes forward. Tori bends over and feels very vulnerable. |
Generating momentum with the step forward, uke punches into the back of tori's head (e.g. GB 20). |
