Activities

As a society we attempt to raise awareness about green issues on all levels, both on campus, and within the wider community. Our main aims this year are:

-To work with the University in implementing and publicising its energy efficiency campaign- a huge step forward for the University.

- To hold charity events to raise money for local and national campaigns. These include our regular (hopefully!) club night- ENVIROSTOMP! The downright embarrassing CALENDAR! Possibly green fairs, including the FARMERS MARKET, and basically anything  else we can think of and have time for!

- We are hoping to be able to volunteer at Hen Heaven every few weeks- this is a local organic chicken farm run by a woman all by herself. We basically go and help her out for an afternoon. Sometimes it’s good to get your hands dirty.

- To try and hold society socials as often as possible, and also to get away at least one weekend every term to places of environmental interest/ protest marches/ etc. Previous trips have been to the Eden Project, the Peak district, and climate change marches.

- To build an Eco-house! Basically an environmentally friendly space on campus which like minded groups and individuals can use as a focal point/ meeting space. Possibly a straw-bale house? (Any ideas welcome!)

- We have on-running campaigns to encourage the University to recycle more,  trade ethically, reduce waste, etc, etc.

- Basically anything else that anyone wants to do- if you fancy getting involved, then come along: Weds at 5pm in Training room 1.
