Kihon Kata Sequence 5

Kihon Kata

Sequence 5:
gedan barai followed by
(in this example)
two punches

Tori throws a low punch/upper cut; uke blocks with a left gedan barai (sometimes a block really is just a block!).

Bury your left thumb under tori's right arm pit and your fingers make a tiger's claw.
You can squeeze into the muscle causing great pain (some people can tense out of this) and take the skin between your fingers and twist the handful of muscle-skin (you can't tense out of this; in fact, it hurts more, the more you tense).
This is the reaction hand of oi tsuki.
The "reaction hand" stops uke from rolling with the punch; uke's right hand punches to a vital area.
In this example, the punch is a single-knuckle punch to the centre line of the sternum, an inch above the nipple line.
The right hand is now on close proximity to the right chest and so applies a tiger's claw itself.
Followed by another punch to the sternum.
